How should I study Polity for UPSC? Effectively
Hello,
Here we will go by subjects.
Polity is the most famous subject when it comes to UPSC. If u see any videos of they want to show upsc aspirant they will simply show Polity book by M Lacmikant,( though they don't know anything about it).
So without any further chik chik let's go to the point.
Polity is acc to me easier subject when it comes to UPSC. If you see pyqs specially prelims oriented they are easier.
Thus it is one of the scoring subject.
And student from any background can get command in this subject, as it doesn't depend upon your prior academics.
So how to start it?
FIND OUT THE SYLLABUS.
Yes, before doing anything one should have syllabus infront of them. Syllabus will bound you and also stops you from distracting.(distraction within subjects) Just go to official website and download the PDF. (Have printout of it ,it's easier and comfortable)
MAKE A PLAN
as u get the syllabus now you to plan it. How you gonna complete the syllabus and revision of it within certain period.
GO WITH BASICS
If you are not confident about reference books, go with NCERT.
NCERT will build up your foundation and you will not feel any discomfort regarding reference books.
FOCUS ON REVISION
In the beginning rather than mugging up facts and making beautiful notes, you should focus on revising the stuff that u covered.
In the beginning you may feel I understood everything but Polity is the most volatile subject, you need to revise it multiple times.
Thus make sure to add revision slots in your preparation.
OFCOURSE , PRACTICE
One need to practice ourselves to get better.
Thus periodic practices are necessary.
NOTE MAKING
well this is the last step,
Usually people start notes making just after buying the book, which is worst.
Read it. Think about it. Revise it. Practice it. And then make notes of it.
OPINION
Well, I had done coaching thus I never felt that Reference books are tough for me.
I had covered NCERT. I have done 6-12 class.
But now I feel, it's not that mandatory.
In my coaching they had covered the main topics.
But those who do self study, should decide on the basis of their own self.
If you are not comfortable with it then go with NCERTS, otherwise reference books are best.
But when it comes to beginners who have ample amount of time, go with NCERTS.
Thus, Polity is the easier subject. One should keep repeating it. Bcz it will give u some bonus points in prelims. Though it's easy but it has disadvantage that it's so volatile. That can be corrected by multiple revisons.
Thus go and find out the syllabus.
Start studying.Now :-)
